Winter Blanketing

These are tips to make sure your horse is healthy and happy.

  • It is important that your horse is measured to get a proper size blanket that fits your horse.

  • Remove your horse’s blankets at least once per day for a few minutes to give a good curry and see what’s going on with their coat.

  • Palpate to test for any soreness.

  • Soreness can occur from blanket rubbing, coldness, riding, slipping on ice, etc.

    • If you want to learn how to palpate, please contact Amare Equus.

  • Do not ride your horse with a blanket. There is too much tension on the chest and the blanket can irritate the front sternum area and muscles.
