Lavender is an herb native to northern Africa and the mountainous regions of the Mediterranean. Studies have shown that lavender causes the RMSSD in horses to increase significantly compared to baseline. RMSSD is the relaxation part of the autonomic nervous system. If RMSSD goes up, that indicates the horse is relaxed.

About 15 minutes before loading a horse into a trailer, allow the horse to breathe in lavender on the palm of your hand. Also, spray 2 pumps into your palm and rub behind the ears or on the chest.
